The first VATC’s Art show: For a happy smile of children in Vietnam

Since middle of Mar 2010, Vietnamese American Vocational Training College (VATC) held the first Art Show at its main campus at 21 Le Quy Don St, Dist 3, Ho Chi Minh City. The Art Show has the paintings with the topic “for our environment, life around us, for our Vietnam country”. At 9:00am on 17 Apr 2010, VATC shall officially open the ceremony for the show at the 8th floor at its main campus to collect money for the Operation Smile organization.

 

 Over 100 products of paintings and arts were created by VATC’s students of Information Technology faculty which were making from various materials. Talking about the purpose of this exhibition, Dr. Nguyen The Bao, VATC’s President said “pollution, natural disasters and global economic crisis …. have caused bad effects to many people. Vietnamese American Vocational Training College - VATC has initiated the Art Show with the topic “For our environment, life around us and for Vietnam country” to caught people’s attention to the critical topic of our environment. Through this Art Show, we hope to contribute a part of making life more beautiful. We also want to inspire students the spirit of charity to disabled children. With those purposes, VATC is launching the auction of Art Show to grant a charity fund to Operation Smile”.

 The Art Show will also be a playground for VATC’s students to prove their practical vocational skills. Via this Art Show, they will also have an opportunity to show their career passion and creative capability. You will see many types of art pieces making from familiar materials with Vietnam people such as peas, rice, bamboo toothpicks, bark and tree leaves, and the art of collage of torn-paper and pieces of magazines. The paintings were created with the topic relating to Vietnamese history as well as the lives in Vietnam countryside such as the King of the jungle, Thien Mu pagoda, Vietnam sight seeing and some heritage ceramic vases, household use (spoons, dishes, glasses, night-lamps…) and paintings on mirror, acrylic application on varied products and sanding paintings…

All the materials are arranged on finished art pieces in a lively and creative way by VATC’s students under the instruction of lecturers who have master degrees in arts. The total 100 art pieces and paintings were carried out for 04 weeks by VATC’s students. In this Art show, there also are some paintings made byVATC lecturers.

 

The special auction event was held to collect for charity fund shall be carried out in 02 stages: the first stage from 2 Apr to 17 Apr and the second stage shall be from 18 Apr to 30 Apr 2010. Introduction of Operation Smile

 

Operation Smile Vietnam is a member of Operation Smile Inc. Operation Smile’s first Medical Mission to Vietnam took place in 1989, up to present, Operation Smile established 02 Rep Offices in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City and a Comprehensive Care Center in Hue and another Comprehensive Care Center is under construction in Ho Chi Minh City. Operation Smile Vietnam has been co-ordinated with local hospitals and government offices to carry out the monthly surgeries for children and teenagers are born with cleft lip, cleft palate facial deformities all over Vietnam.

 

Every year, there are about 3000 children in Vietnam were born with cleft lip and/or cleft palate (ratio 1/500). This number is added with the current number of children were counted to 13.000 patients that never receive life-changing surgery or have done the surgery but the result is not perfect. However, 2 out 3 of babies come to Operation Smile must go home without surgery due to shortage of money, time as well as infrastructure conditions. Thank to the sponsor of the government, partnership hospitals, volunteers and especially donators, Operation Smile, up to present, has carried out the cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries for more than 14.000 children.
